Long break, I know.
Anyway, I had the opportunity last night to see Lucy Rose play a solo set at The Tonic Room, with about 50 other people who were just as blown away as I was. She’s an absolutely captivating talent, melding Elena Tonra (Daughter)’s enveloping wistfulness with Laura Marling’s charm and youth. The result is something that captures your heart, turns down the lights, and makes you forget everything else in the world for as long as Lucy is playing.
Her debut album, “Like I Used To”, will be coming out this year in the US via Thirty Tigers. She’s also touring a bunch of tiny venues all over the country right now, and if you have the chance, you’d be crazy not to go. Seriously. Absolutely crazy. I don’t think it’ll be long before she’s playing 500+ seat houses, instead of hanging outside a little Chicago dive bar thanking each person who came out to see her spellbinding set. Check out these two videos below, and make sure to keep an eye out, because I really believe Lucy Rose is one of a select few artists who I’d be comfortable calling the future of folk music.
Hope y’all are doing well!
